FREE ILL's new EP, “Live Out of Page", released independently, pushes the 3-piece boom-bap crew back into the world of the living. DJ K-FLiP's intricate cuts pair well with L. Write's heavy, sample-based production. Most noticeable in his gritty drum patterns, carving out his own signature sound: the perfect soundtrack to Ase Mor's rhyme-heavy storytelling in the lyrical vein of Mos Def and Nas. In five deeply written, life-reflective joints; FREE ILL takes you through the depression of not actualizing your potential, eventually pulling you through to the other side with a happy-ish ending. A prelude to the full-length record "Wet Window Sill Songs", this EP does justice to the idea of a come back.
Includes digital pre-order of LIVE: Out Of PAGE. You get 1 track now (streaming via the free Bandcamp app and also available as a high-quality download in MP3, FLAC and more), plus the complete album the moment it’s released.

WHAT IS FREE ILL?
Free Ill is a unified collective of creative expressionists representing the love of all things Hip-hop.
Free Ill is a three-piece hip-hop crew whose fundamental concept is to make quality, lyric-driven music over soul -sampled instrumentals, all tied together by the DJ.
Our subject matter covers a wide variety of ideas and experiences with less concern over whether the lyrics are positive or negative, but rather whether they are honest and invoke an emotional response in the listener.
Ase Mor and L. Write started working together when they moved into the same 80 Page Street apartment the same day in the summer of 2012, never having met before.
The addition of DJ K-FLiP came after the release of the 2013 EP "The Dealer", but they had worked before together doing live performances for a couple years before that in Niagara Falls, St. Catharines, Hamilton, and Toronto.
After "The Dealer" (officially released under the mantra "Ase x Deuce") the two musicians started a project called "Wet Window Sill Songs" that was put on hold due to familial and personal stressors, and Ase and L. Write weren't able to continue production until 2016-2017.
IN THE FUTURE
Free Ill has undergone a lot of changes since it's original inception years ago when two unknown rappers were trying to form crew and simply needed a name. In 2013 it's metamorphoses consisted of a group of contributors whose skills ranged from illustration, to quality control, to freestyling, nevermind the basic hip-hop elements.
Now, it has matured to a core three-piece crew with affiliates: The emcee, Ase Mor the Corner Store Rapper, the producer, L. Write, and the man behind the tables, DJ K-FLiP.
Our focus is to create authentic boom-bap music that drives the style forward towards evolution within the art, and instead of forsaking our roots, bolstering them encouraging current appreciation for younger listeners and old heads alike.

The Corner Store Rapper
Joel was born and raised in St. Catharines, Canada. He's been writing music since he was a kid, beginning his craft on a notepad in his bedroom as he listened to his dad play acoustic guitar in the living room. After being introduced to rap music at a friend's house, Ase Mor the Corner Store Rapper (formally named Amor) decided to flex his writing skills, and try his hand at writing hip hop songs. It wasn't until hearing Blackstar and Common's record "Be", that he knew he wanted to be an emcee.
Growing in the Hip-Hop culture over the years, Ase has cultivated his flow with precision, and nothing but excellence on the mind to direct his growth. His drive takes him to deeper into the music to create even more raw and honest Hip-Hop, always trying to push his style and content further to the brink of originality through evolution.
The chemistry between producer and emcee is evident on stage when the crew feels each other out through the live breaks Luke delivers on the MPC, and the vocal styling's of Ase's off-the-cuff banter. All of this supported by DJ K-FLiP turntables and a stack of raw wax.
